So far the themes have been self portrait (eek!), black and white and this weeks theme was joy. I’ve had the theme on my mind as I’ve worked this week, but nothing really spoke to me the way I was hoping. I think joy is something that has to be capture spontaneously and somehow, all the spontaneous joyful moments here have happened quietly or gone by documented only by my memories. So, I pulled some files that I’ve been saving to edit – well I guess you could say neglecting to edit from this fall.

Occasionally when I’m working, Stephen and the boys will come along with me if the session is outside somewhere. Many of my favorite places to work around here are also some of our favorite places to play and be together. So sometimes S takes the boys to play and wait for me and when I’m finished we’ll all play together. For this session, we had made a kite to use early that weekend for a family session and my own boys had just had some major ants in their pants to get their hands on the kite. When I was finished working we let them play with it, the day was perfect, the wind was blowing just enough to lift it into the sky. The kit had/has some a few imperfections but for a homemade kite it worked amazing well! Compliments to my dad for that! These shots were taken just a few minutes before the sun went down and I think it was a time when the moment was perfect. When you have little ones in your life, there are so many opportunities to experience authentic joy with them. Looking at this I just want to draw big puffy hearts all over them and then sigh at how much I love all three of them and then doodle me+you=love in my notebook. I’m silly like that.
